Mel Unsworth

Chief Technical Officer, Financial Times

Hello, my name is Mel Unsworth and I’m the Chief Technology Officer at Financial Times. I lead the global technology teams responsible for building and running the platforms, products, and systems that support the Financial Times and the millions of readers who use our products every day.

I’ve worked in technology and digital leadership for more than 15 years across media, retail, ecommerce, and entertainment, helping businesses use technology to grow, innovate, and create better experiences for customers. My career started in technology operations, and since then I’ve worked across engineering, digital product, ecommerce, data, and large scale transformation for global brands including Warner Music Group and Virgin Media.

What I enjoy most about technology is that it’s always changing and there are so many different ways to build a career in it. I’m passionate about sharing that with young people, especially helping students understand that there isn’t one single path into tech. Whether your interests are coding, design, data, problem solving, or building products people use every day, technology can open up a huge range of opportunities. I enjoy speaking about leadership, innovation, and what it’s really like to work in tech and lead teams in a fast moving digital business.
