In July 2026, BT Group hosted a 2-day in-person work experience for young people. The programme was designed to give an immersive introduction to BT and the wider telecommunications industry – and to open doors to future careers.

Exploring the World of Telecommunications

Through leadership talks, recruitment workshops, structured group activities, mock assessments and interviews, career exploration exercises and interactions staff across all levels and departments, work experience attendees gained valuable insights into the wide range of roles in telecommunications, as well as career pathways and essential employability skills, including teamwork, communication and problem-solving. The programme focused on building confidence in young people, opening their eyes to available opportunities, and helping them prepare for future careers in the sector.

The Impact of Work Experience

Post-placement feedback highlighted increased student confidence in career readiness. Young people described gaining a better understanding of the telecommunications industry, available opportunities within it and the recruitment processes for future jobs. Many also noted an improvement in their interview skills and feeling more prepared for writing applications and making informed career decisions.
