Most recently Board member of the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, Director General Europe & Irregular Migration, responsible for the reset of relations with European countries. HM Ambassador to the Russian Federation (January 2020 to November 2023), Director General & member of FCO Board (2014-2019), Trustee of British Council (2015-2019), HM Ambassador to Zimbabwe (2011-2014), FCO Director & G8 negotiator (2008-2011). Previously posted to Russia as Economic Counsellor (2002-2005), European Commission as Member of Commissioner Rt Hon Lord Neil Kinnock's Cabinet (1995-99) and UK representation to the EU (1991-1993). MA in Political Economies of Russia and Eastern Europe (SSEES/UCL) & BSc(Hons) in Mathematics (Bristol). Attended Featherstone Comprehensive School in Southall, Middx. Married with two sons. Interests include running and politics.
