Gary Thompson

Gary Thompson is a filmmaker, curator, and cultural entrepreneur with a rich background in visual arts and event production. Holding a BA in Filmmaking from the University of the West of England and an HND in Graphic Design from Southwark College, Gary has honed both creative and technical skills that inform his multidisciplinary approach. He is the founder of Cables & Cameras, a platform dedicated to showcasing diverse voices in film and arts, and the Inspired Film Festival, a biannual event celebrating cinematic artistry that has attracted over 1,000 attendees since 2021.
Gary’s recent projects include co-leading a BFI Academy workshop series for young POC creatives, curating an all-female screening event with Bristol University, and collaborating on the This is Jungle/D&B exhibition, which explored Bristol’s music heritage. He also launched Doc2doc, a documentary training program funded by the BFI Doc Society, empowering emerging filmmakers.
Among his achievements are a nomination for the RTS West of England Student Television Awards for his co-produced documentary Make Way For Mandem and a 2022 National Diversity Awards nomination for excellence in community organization. His skill set includes , curatorial planning, social media management, and technical proficiency in Adobe CC and Mac OS.
Gary is passionate about cultural representation, creating platforms for marginalized voices, and engaging audiences through immersive storytelling and event curation. His work consistently reflects his commitment to inclusivity, community impact, and creative innovation in the arts.
