Lord John Walney
Peer & UK Special Envoy on Countering Violent Extremism
Two decades in politics and government has seen John working on fascinating and important issues for the country. A former spokesman to a UK prime minister in Downing Street, Member of Parliament in the north west of England and shadow minister, John now sits in the House of Lords with two main roles: he is the UK government's independent adviser on political violence and disruption, and is the Prime Minister's Trade Envoy to Tanzania. He is completing a review to be considered by the PM and Home Secretary into the degree of threat posed by those on the violent and disruptive fringes of UK politics, including where we should set the boundaries on protest.
