Samira Sohail

Partner, Zulu Group

Samira Sohail is a globally minded product leader, investor, and entrepreneur with over 15 years of experience building, scaling, and funding ventures at the intersection of technology, culture, and education across three continents.

She is a Partner at Zulu Group, a venture studio that believes great products can transform society and positively impact the planet. She saw firsthand how the internet reshaped entertainment while at the BBC, where she launched digital formats for BBC News, spearheaded video streaming on BBC iPlayer, and helped the broadcaster become the first to livestream the London 2012 Olympics. She later became Product Director at Newsela, one of the world’s twenty edtech unicorns, used in 90% of U.S. schools. During the Covid-19 pandemic, she led the company’s rapid pivot from a classroom tool to an at-home learning platform, scaling usage 4x overnight.

Samira operates on both sides of the table as a maker and an investor. She is CEO of Luxo Beta, her product and venture studio building and backing mission-driven startups in London, Los Angeles, and New York. Previously, she was an early-stage VC at LocalGlobe, a seed fund behind 18 European unicorns, and today she co-charters a global seed fund with a music entertainment mogul, managing a 60+ company portfolio. She is also an angel investor and mentor with leading accelerators including Techstars and Zinc.

A third-culture kid of British Indian-Pakistani heritage, Samira grew up inspired by technology’s ability to transcend borders. After a Mathematics degree at Trinity College, Cambridge, she complemented her STEM grounding with cultural immersion, studying French at Université de la Sorbonne, Paris. She is a committed advocate for stronger representation in STEAM.

Her career has been shaped by creative sabbaticals and a remote-first mindset: she produced the Samira Stalks podcast while in Bali, trained as a yoga teacher in Hawai’i, and has built digital mindfulness content.

Samira frequently shares her insights as a speaker, moderator, and commentator on the international tech conference circuit and in global media. She is a Board Member of the Griffith Observatory Foundation and a Guest Lecturer on Social Entrepreneurship at Pepperdine University.

A visionary leader, Samira is passionate about harnessing technology to drive positive human and planetary impact, serving as a role model for women and minorities in tech, and inspiring the next generation of entrepreneurs.
