Sir Alan Wood
I am a teacher by profession. I taught History and subsequently specialised in the education of children with severe behavioural issues.
I was the Director of Education in two local authorities. I established The Learning Trust, an independent, not for profit organisation, which took responsibility for managing all schools in Hackney (2002-2015).
I have advised government on a range of issues relating to children including the Wood Report 2017 which led a change in the law detailing the way national agencies work together to protect children reports on child protection, children in prison and improving schools and structures in education.
I grew up in the East End of London at a time when children in that area were not expected to go to university. I believe passionately in the importance of eduction and its impact on changing lives and opening up opportunities.
I have a good sense of humour, enjoy robust discussion and seeing pupils and young people challenging the status quo and explaining the ideas and thoughts about themselves and our society.
I have two adult children and two very young granddaughters.
