Victoria Borwick

Former MP & Former Deputy Mayor of London

I believe it is important to encourage the next generation to think about how they are governed and how they can get involved. I have very much enjoyed speaking and debating with school groups in my earlier roles. I have lived in London all my life and have served as a school governor, NHS foundation trust governor, a judge for the Institute of Civil Engineers on infrastructure. Following 20 years in business in customer facing and marketing roles, I decided to go into politics. I have been an elected local Councillor, elected member of the Greater London Authority, where I also served as The Deputy Mayor of London to Boris Johnson, and more recently was a Member of Parliament. Whilst in Parliament I was elected to the Science and Technology Committee. In the past I have published research on: the use of DNA - protecting the innocent, Public Order policing, What do Friendly Cities look like? Tackling fuel poverty. I served on the London Health Commission looking at the future of health care and integrated care and have worked with Kings College on the future shaping of London - looking at the challenges facing our capital city. I am married and we have 4 children, youngest currently at university. As a result of my life experience I enjoy meeting pupils and encouraging discussion on a broad range of topics and challenging how they can play their part in their local community and beyond. In the past I have also volunteered with the Young Enterprise scheme with pupils.I believe it is important to encourage the next generation to think about how they are governed and how they can get involved.
