The Power of Work Experience According to Young People

Work experience can be life-changing – but what turns a placement into a meaningful opportunity? Discover the real power of work experience through the voices of young people themselves.
Sophia’s Success Story
Sophia has started work as a degree apprentice with Deloitte. Her Futures For All work experience story started with Morgan Sindall and Danny Sullivan Groups, where she was introduced the idea of apprenticeships.
“Meeting other apprentices at the time was really, really important for me, and I think was the catalyst to where I am today.”
Ryan’s Success Story
Ryan is now undertaking an apprenticeship with JP Morgan. His Futures For All story started when he was sixteen, on work experience with the Ministry of Justice and SSCL. Ryan reveals how the placements opened his eyes to getting as much varied experience as possible.
“Work experience is about equipping the next generation with skills and insight into what they want their futures to be like. It’s the most valuable thing.”
Lara’s Success Story
From participant to employee, Lara’s career journey has come full circle. Her work experience story with FinTrU is a powerful example of the meaningful opportunities and connections our programme creates – and the lasting impact they can have.

“In June 2021, I started the first day of my remote work experience with FinTrU… Fast forward to June 2023, and I took part in the same work experience programme, however, this time as an employee at FinTrU.”
Building Futures Through Work Experience: Joyce and Josh
For Series 2, Episode 1 of Futures For All – The Podcast, our CEO, Nick Brook, is joined by Futures For All alumni, Joyce Tanda, Economics and Management Student at Royal Holloway; and Josh Evans Business Management Graduate at easyJet. Together, they share their own journeys into work experience, their career paths since, and their hopes for young people – now and in the future.

Opening Doors to Opportunities Through Work Experience
50% of students leave school without any work experience, but Futures For All is changing that. Work experience sets young people – and businesses – up for future success through meaningful engagement and skills, stronger pathways into work, and an empowered next generation of employees.
