A Digital Success Story

The new academic year started brilliantly at King’s School in Hove, with an incredible day featuring YouTube sensation TommyInnit alongside Danny Lorimer, Creative Director for Sony Pictures Television’s Digital Studio. Known worldwide for his gaming content, Tommy has successfully expanded his career into vlogs, comedy content, live performances, and world tours – as well as the 100 Questions podcast, produced by Danny. Together, they brought a special ‘21 Questions’ to the young people in attendance, sharing real-world insights, life lessons and career advice from their experiences in creative media and tech.

Inside the Talk

The talk explored Tommy’s career journey which began with his first YouTube video at age 11. Tommy spoke openly about turning his passion into a profession, including whether he might have made a different decision about leaving further education, and the importance of having a strong support network and routine. He attributed his success today to Danny and the wider team, who have roles in production, marketing and outreach.

Tommy and Danny shared an insightful exchange through their ‘21 Questions’ format, offering plenty of advice for young people thinking about future careers – and a realistic view of working in the digital media industry. Drawing on his wealth of experience in this sector, from LADbible Group to YouTube and Netflix, Danny emphasised the importance of meeting deadlines, highlighting how this is valued across all industries. Tommy added that attitude, manners and dedication are vital for success – before inviting questions from students.

Talk Impact

“Our students were really excited about having Tom come to King's. A student told our headteacher that the talk was life changing! The students were really inspired by the examples that both Tom and his producer shared… We would be very happy to host more talks as it had such an impact on our whole school community.”

Educator, King’s School

“[The highlights were] The students' enthusiasm for Tommy. The way in which Tommy and his producer engaged with each other in an easy conversation… They were all so inspired and excited by the session.”

Educator, King’s School

“They balanced the talk between humour and real answers very well!! I love TommyInnit too.”

Student

“Doing a spin on 100 Questions at King's School, Hove was brilliant. The students came in with genuinely great questions, some proper curveballs too, which I loved. Chatting alongside Danny was cool because our career paths are so different, it kind of proves the point that you really don't know where things are going to take you. I hope everyone left thinking 'ok maybe I don't need to have it all figured out' and to just chase whatever they're actually into.”

TommyInnit aka Tom Simons

“I hope, with Tommy, we've inspired young people to pursue a career they're genuinely passionate about, but also to be open to new experiences along the way. There are so many opportunities in creative media and digital content, and it was great to give the Kings School students a glimpse into what working in this sector is really like. These talks are a brilliant way to share career insights and answer students' questions, it was a pleasure to be involved.”
