Creative Roles in Film with Into Film

Film has the power to inspire, educate and connect – and for many young people, it can also be the start of an exciting career. Into Film, the UK charity putting film at the heart of children and young people’s learning, believes that the screen industries offer huge opportunities for creativity, collaboration, and personal growth.
“Working in film and TV means you are working in a vibrant environment on a product for people to enjoy and is creative and culturally relevant… Most young people have heard of a director, writer or producer, but there are hundreds of other roles to explore… it’s an incredibly varied sector that celebrates differences and diversity.” – Cerys Evans, Careers Lead, Into Film
In July 2025, students from schools and colleges across the UK took part in a 3-day online (remote) work experience programme with Into Film, exploring what it’s really like to work behind the scenes in film and television.
Bringing Ideas to Life
The remote placement centred around a major group project – to create and pitch a brand-new television show. Over 3 days, participants met film and TV professionals, developed ideas collaboratively in breakout sessions, and presented their final concepts to the panel.
“Seeing the students from different schools and colleges supporting each other and collaborating so successfully – it really got people to work together which is a beautiful thing and part of what working in film, TV and the wider screen industries is all about.” – Eva Poliszczuk, Careers Coordinator, Into Film
The experience gave students a taste of how creative projects move from idea to screen, developing their skills in storytelling, production planning and presentation – key areas for anyone exploring film work experience or creative careers.
Student Feedback
Feedback from participants showed just how valuable virtual work experience in film and TV can be.
“I feel like it was so enjoyable it would be even nicer to do maybe a 4-day programme.” – Student
“Using breakout rooms to partake in group projects massively helped me to develop my speaking, teamwork, creativity and leadership skills alongside others.” – Student

Advice for Young People
“Be ready to get stuck in, it’s about being practical, thinking creatively and working collaboratively. There are no silly ideas: thinking outside the box, looking at something in a different way or taking a shot on a new idea are all important parts of the creative process. Your ideas have real value.” – Eva Poliszczuk, Careers Coordinator, Into Film

Employer Insights
“It was a joy to be part of. The students were so engaged and enthusiastic. All the industry professionals taking part fed back on how much they enjoyed it. Many students don’t have easy access to information and experience related to the screen industries, something we at Into Film are working hard to address, so it’s great to give advice, share opportunities and… provide hands on learning, allowing students to thrive by working on projects and doing something tangible that’s out of the ordinary from school.” – Eva Poliszczuk, Careers Coordinator, Into Film
