Creative Tech Careers: Amy Smith Sets the Scene for IntoTech Talks

Where Tech, Creativity and Innovation Intersect

Technology and creativity sit at the heart of modern storytelling and the modern world, making Framestore’s expertise especially valuable for our IntoTech programme with The HG Foundation. IntoTech encourages young people to consider the broad range of careers in the UK technology sector – and in July 2026, Amy Smith, Global Director, Recruitment and Outreach, spoke to students at Haberdashers' Hatcham College in London about some of the creative media roles that sit within it. As a British visual effects and animation house, Framestore knows the power of inspiration – bringing big ideas to life, and exciting opportunities for future talent.
The Talk in Focus
Amy’s talk gave young people an exciting introduction to the visual effects (VFX) industry and a behind-the-scenes look at the work Framestore delivers.
“Amy explained how VFX is used in films, TV, advertising, and immersive experiences… Students were particularly excited to learn about Framestore's involvement in productions such as The Avengers, Paddington, and The Queen. They were also fascinated by the creation of Rocket from Guardians of the Galaxy and how VFX was used to create the ocean scenes in Life of Pi. Seeing the technology and creativity behind projects they recognise and enjoy made the talk especially inspiring and memorable.”

While sharing real-world examples of VFX work in action, Amy highlighted the broad range of roles available in the sector, and gave an overview of her own career, reflecting on valuable experiences and insights. She spoke about her own journey into VFX, and made students aware of the various entry routes into the industry as well as essential skills – including transferable skills across technology and creativity.
“Amy showed how school subjects such as Computer Science, Design, Animation, Art, and Mathematics are applied in the creative industries, helping students understand the links between their studies and future career opportunities in the creative technology sector.”

Future Talent
With an engaged audience and so many student questions, Amy’s talk helped to fuel young people’s curiosity about creative media jobs and inspire the next generation of professionals at the intersection of art and technology.
“Several students were particularly surprised by the scale and commercial impact of the VFX industry… and many were intrigued by the salaries and career progression opportunities available for senior VFX professionals.”
